Chapter 1
The birth of pizza
How much do you know about our favorite pizza? The modern pizza we encounter started in Naples, Italy, in the 18th century. At that time, pizza was a simple dish with only tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and olives in the bread.
With the revitalization of foreign trade and urbanization, the population of Naples jumped from 200,000 in 1700 to 400,000 in 1748. As urban economic growth failed to keep up with the pace of population growth, the entire city suffered from poverty, and pizza, which was cheap and easy to eat, became popular in earnest.

In the 19th century, a menu that raised the dignity of pizza, which was a common food, was born. It's Margherita pizza.
In 1889, King Umberto I and Queen Margherita of Italy visited Naples. During their visit, a famous chef named Rafael (Raffaelo Esposito) made a pizza for the Queen. He used basil, mozzarella cheese, and tomatoes to create a pizza that represented the colors of the Italian flag.
The pizza was named Margherita after the Queen and has since become a popular dish among the public.

Chapter 2
Spread to America
"Isn't pizza originally from America?"
American-style pizza, such as Chicago-style deep-dish pizza and New York-style cheese pizza, is more familiar to many people than traditional Italian pizza, including the Margherita pizza. The United States is the world's largest consumer of pizza, with approximately 3 billion pizzas sold annually. It is estimated that around 13% of the population consumes pizza every day.
The history of pizza in America can be traced back to Italian immigrants. In 1905, an Italian immigrant named Lombardi opened the first pizzeria in the United States in Manhattan, New York. The pizzeria is still in operation today and is considered a significant milestone in the history of pizza in America.
Since the mid-20th century, pizza has become an increasingly popular food worldwide. It is said that American soldiers who were dispatched to Italy during World War II fell in love with pizza and continued to search for it even after returning home to the United States.
As a result, American-style pizza started to emerge. This coincided with the widespread availability of cars and motorcycles, which allowed for the creation of famous franchise brands and a culture of enjoying pizza as a delivery food. Some of the popular pizza chains that were established during this time include Shakey’s in 1954, Pizza Hut in 1958, Little Caesar’s in 1959, and Domino’s Pizza in 1960. These brands are all well-known today.
The first pizza restaurant in Korea opened in 1972 at the UNESCO Building in Seoul. Pizza Hut entered the Korean market in 1985, and pizza became increasingly popular among Koreans. As time passed, local franchise brands such as Pizza Mall and Mr. Pizza also emerged.
To cater to Korean tastes, pizza toppings were adapted and evolved, including the creation of bulgogi pizza, a popular Korean dish that incorporates marinated beef. Today, various pizza toppings such as shrimp and sweet potato are also popular in Korea.
Chapter3
Unlimited American Pizza?
What sets pizza apart from other foods is its versatility in terms of how it can be enjoyed. You can quickly grab a slice and eat it on the go, order delivery to share with family or friends, or enjoy a fine dining experience with wine and ambiance.
Another culture that has embraced pizza in a unique way is the "Buffet" culture. The advantage of pizza buffets is the ability to sample various types of pizza in one location. In the United States, there are numerous pizza buffet franchises such as "CiCi's Pizza" and "Round Table Pizza," while in Korea, "Pizzamall" is the only option.
At Pizzamall, customers can enjoy unlimited servings of three types of pizza that represent different regions of the United States: "New York Cheese Pizza," "Detroit Pizza," and "Chicago Pizza." This menu item has been added to all of their stores nationwide.
#1 New York Cheese Pizza
This is a menu item developed by Lombardi. New York pizza is made by spreading the dough thinly and widely, and contains a generous amount of mozzarella cheese. The toppings are simple and large, making it easy to eat while walking around the busy city of New York. The crust is not particularly special, so Pizza Mall added crispy toppings.
#2 Chicago Hot Meat Diavola Pizza
Chicago-style pizza, also known as deep-dish pizza, is made by pressing dough into a deep round pan and layering cheese, sauce, and toppings on top. As the dough is deep, there is a lot of cheese in it, which can make it feel greasy. However, Pizza Mall added spicy Cheongyang sauce to the tomato sauce to balance the richness.
#3 Detroit Super Supreme Pizza
This is the only square-shaped pizza among the three. It originated from making pizza in an "iron pan", which was easy to find in Detroit, the city of cars. The special feature is that the dough is baked twice, resulting in a chewy interior and crispy exterior.
And that's not all. At Pizza Mall, you can enjoy "Margherita" pizza, which Queen Margherita loved to eat, cooked in an authentic wood-fired oven.
Pizza Mall offers more than just unlimited pizza. They also have a variety of salad bar options available, allowing you to customize your meal according to your tastes.
